Commercial Invasive Non-Native Species INNS Removal

Including Japanese Knotweed

INNS issue?

As well as Japanese Knotweed, we can manage and eradicate all plant species contained in the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 Section 14 Schedule 9. This includes other invasive plants. Under the act, it is illegal to plant or otherwise cause to grow in the wild any plant listed in Schedule 9.
There are a large number of non-native as well as native plants which are known to be invasive. The introduction of some plants from abroad that have proven highly invasive in the UK threatens natural habitats and native species. By containing these plants and disposing of unwanted plants and weeds correctly, we can help reduce the spread of invasive non-native species.

Other species of invasive plants in the UK include:
  • Giant hogweed
  • Himalayan balsam
  • Mare’s/Horse Tail
  • Montbretia
  • Cotoneaster

Japanese Knotweed issue?

If you suspect your commercial property or development site has any Japanese Knotweed infestation, then early investigation and action is essential.

Delays could lead to large legal and financial implications. Under the provisions made within Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is an offence to cause Japanese knotweed to grow in the wild.

Since 2013, the property seller is required to state whether Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is present on their property. Your Conveyancer or solicitor will be able to provide full legal advice.

Elcot Environmental will ensure swift identification and control on your building site or commercial premises, thus avoiding larger costs, potential compensation claims and even prosecution!

Excavation

Japanese Knotweed should be excavated prior to development works, the excavated material is classed as controlled waste and should be dealt with in the correct manner. The most cost-effective option is on-site cell burial providing there is suitable space on-site, alternatively, the material can be sent to a licenced landfill facility.
